Research
Learning with AI
I currently research the use of AI in education, with a particular focus on science and mathematics teaching — a forthcoming book, a peer-reviewed study of how physics professors use generative AI, a course for teachers, a blog, and a podcast.
Phase-Field Crystal Research
In my PhD, I worked on phase-field crystal modeling of crystal deformation and microplasticity — how grain boundaries move and dislocations nucleate, and what that means for how a material yields. That thread continues through the open-source ComFiT simulation library and my current co-supervision of two students.
Teaching teachers
Profag KI-kurs
Together with Andreas Haraldsrud at KURT (UiO), I built a four-module professional-development programme on AI in teaching: generative-AI foundations and prompt design, teaching activities and differentiation, programming with AI, and assessment. I've run it for teacher groups across several Norwegian counties each semester since 2025.

Co-supervisor — student projects
I currently co-supervise two students at the University of Oslo, working with computational field-theory methods built on the ComFiT framework.
Podcasts
Under Kappa
Together with Even Garvang, I founded and co-host a bi-weekly science communication podcast that examines the scientific plausibility of superheroes — physics, biology, and everything in between. Since April 2023 it has grown to close to 70 episodes, earned coverage on national TV and radio, and won the Norwegian Physical Society's 2025 outreach prize.
REAL læring
As senior lecturer at KURT (UiO), I make a podcast about the learning sciences in higher education — seasons on ChatGPT and learning, the different institutes at the MN faculty, and teaching formats such as compulsory assignments and group sessions. A new season on generative AI is in production.
KIosk
In this podcast, I talk to teachers who have actually tried something with AI in their own classroom — what worked, what didn't, and what they'd do differently.
Talks & media
Since 2022 I've been a recurring panelist on NRK's Abels tårn (P2), a repeat guest on Andreas Wahl's podcast Jøss?, and an occasional science expert for TV2 — alongside talks and teacher workshops on AI and physics across Norway and the Nordics. The full, dated list lives on the CV page.
